Plastic Recycling Expert- The adverse impact of plastic waste on terrestrial and marine life, increasing consumer awareness, anti-pollution legislation and shrinking landfill space have together forced the chemical industry to move rapidly towards developing recycling technologies for used plastic products. Reusing plastics waste to high value chemicals could become an important driver of profitability for chemical companies. Particularly for plastic producers, plastics waste can potentially become the next source of feedstock advantage for polymer production.

Today’s consumer perceptions are aligned with the global agenda for wealth creation based on “green principles”. Major brands are forced to follow these principles by masking scientific realities. There are hence several companies and technology providers operating at the semi-commercial/commercial scale in the plastic recycling expert landscape.   These processes are very diverse and range in process scale, acceptable feedstock, reactor design, catalysis and product quality. The race to develop and demonstrate plastics recycling technologies has although also led to some very aggressive marketing by some technology start-ups, entrepreneurs and process developers who claim to have developed or near-developed break-through advances (novel catalysis, process, or both). A vast majority of these ideas are just not commercially viable (they assume efficiencies and operation beyond thermodynamic boundaries, ignore safety and responsible care concerns, or just forward an idea that has already been tested and was not successful) and hence, further investment here is a dead end for chemical technology and investment firms.

Having years of experience in the plastics production process, we understand that the basic tenets for commercial success of plastic recycling technologies. A plastics recycling technology would only be commercially viable and sustainable it is efficient without precise sorting of plastic waste, can offer a detailed breakdown to high-valued chemicals, can be scaled to the feedstock volume constraint, and is reasonable on costs and emissions. A suitable screening matrix needs to be utilized to rank different plastics recycling technologies; and patent and patent citation data, changes in sales and profits, research and development budgets, scientific productivity, and expert opinions of company technological strengths should be investigated in depth. Other than the recycling technology itself, there are further facets to plastic waste recycling that need to be considered: collection of waste, sorting and washing, form of the plastic feed fed into the process etc. We provide comprehensive consulting services in process design, advise on expanding applicability of other feedstock resources (biomass and municipal solid waste) in the present design and conducting techno-economic feasibility study on different recycling processes. We provide techno-economic comparisons between alternate plastics recycling processes on cost, circularity and emissions indicators and recommend the best – prior to decision-making process.
